Police escorts

Police-escorted oversize loads are coordinated and conducted by the WA Police Traffic Escort Section.

The Section ensures the safe travel of all oversize load movements that are in excess of 5.5 metres wide and over 30 metres (metro), over 40 metres (country) in length, throughout Western Australia.

Escort staff work closely with the transport industry, Main Roads WA - Heavy Vehicle Operations, Western Power and other government agencies.

Permits

All oversize load movements escorted by police must have current valid Main Roads permits for the particular load and in some cases, Western Power permits, when the height of the load exceeds 4.3 metres. Information regarding these permits can be obtained from Main Roads WA Heavy Vehicle Operations and Western Power.

Transporting Oversized Loads – Western Power customer information

WA Police and Main Roads WA – Heavy Vehicle Operations investigate and prosecute transport operators who disregard permit conditions.
