Do you know an outstanding police officer?
If you know of a WA Police officer who has excelled at his or her job, you can ensure that good work is recognised by nominating them for this prestigious award. Nominating an officer is easy and quick.
Selection criteria:
The Police Officer of the Year Award recognises outstanding service by a police officer, over and above what is required as part of that officer's normal duties and functions. It is up to you to tell us why an officer is special, then the judging panel will assess how your nomination against one or more of the four criteria below.
REMEMBER…The officer does not have to have excelled in every single criterion. The sum total of their excellence is the important thing.
The judging panel includes senior police, who will validate the claims and provide advice to the panel on the officer’s suitability to be named Police Officer of the Year. While the panel’s decision will focus on officers’ service during the 12 months prior to the announcement of the Award, nominees’ longer service record will also be taken into account.
Consideration of the following factors should be taken into account:
- The officer demonstrated absolute excellence in a particular policing discipline, role or task.
- The officer acted in a compassionate or humane way towards one or more people.
- The officer showed absolute devotion to a particular policing duty or cause.
- The officer raised the public's perception of, or confidence in, policing.
Nominations close at 5pm, 1 August 2012.
Any nominations received after this date will be held over for inclusion in judging for the 2013 Police Officer of the Year Award.

About the WA Police Officer of the Year Award
The WA Police Officer of the Year Award was initiated in 1973 by the Rotary Club of East Perth. It is proudly sponsored by the Burswood Entertainment Complex, Police and Nurses Credit Society, 6PR and 96FM. The award recognises the hard work all police officers contribute to our community.
The officers nominated highlight that police work is both varied and challenging and greatly affects people from all walks of life. Policing is not only a job, it is a way of life. Recognising a police officer with a nomination reinforces that members of the police are not simply uniforms, but also community members who share the same concerns as others.
